Weaverville, California, July 26, 2012 – Frank Speck, a renowned oil and acrylic artist will be featured at the Main Street Gallery in August. Frank says, “I feel fortunate to have both the ability and the opportunity to express myself with form and color. I find inspiration in a variety subjects - the broad umbrella, 'Urban Landscapes' leaves me free to choose any direction that catches my eye - but I find myself drawn to situations that have a story to tell. Just as the wrinkles on a face bear witness to the life lived, often rust and flaking paint can illustrate history better than something that has been well cared for.

However, growing up in England, where design is far more conservative, I also find the sight of a classic Chevy, or Caddy in showroom condition absolutely irresistible, and having worked in architectural restoration for more than two decades, I can't help but appreciate this labor of love. I try to faithfully reproduce the detail out of respect to the enthusiast, but will sometimes emphasize color or perspective to add to the visual impact of the piece.  Some of my latest work was borrowed from the artwork of that era, to add a nostalgic flavor to the image - painted directly onto board, giving the feel of mid-century-modern's clean hard lines.”
