LETTING GO! The Loopy Coop Hens
Written and illustrated by Janet Morgan Stoeke

Children's book review by S.A. Barone

The story opens with hen friends, Midge, Pip and Dot, the Loopy Coop Hens, sitting under an apple tree on the Loopy Coop Farm, minding their own business, when apples start to fall down upon their heads.

Who is throwing apples at them?  Is it the fox?  Their friend Rooster Sam is no help to them, one near-miss with an apple and off Sam runs.  The brave hens decide to investigate.  They climb up a ladder to the top of the tree and discover…gravity.  The apples are falling by themselves, the apples are just letting go, so the three hens decide to do the same.  “Just let go.”  They enjoy the trip down, however the landing, not so much.  “I love being an apple,” they shout and climb up the ladder again and let themselves go again.

Janet Stoeke uses few words and lots of colorful illustrations, in vibrant acrylics, to get her story across and show a maximum of personality, energy and humor in her characters.

This book is good for beginning readers, plus a fun book for parents to read to their little ones.

 Happy Reading!
