October 2014 Art Cruise at Main Street Gallery, ARTful Women

ARTful Women, contemporary fabric artists, are featured at Main Street Gallery in October.

This is a group of seven foothill artists who work their artistic, creative magic in fabric.  “Our goal is to increase awareness about fabric as a legitimate fine art form and to push ourselves to expand our creative limits using this dynamic medium.”

Their pieces range from minimally to multi-layered and are “stitched, painted, dyed, stamped or otherwise surface-altered.”  Seven different artists bring seven styles of art and seven different approaches and uses of media to their fabric art.

Gail Sims is inspired by art that “arouses emotion, which leads me to convey feeling in my own work.”

Pam Berry enjoys “using a wide variety of techniques, including creating ‘new fabric’ from commercial or hand dyed fabrics with… embellishment.”

Joan Dyer says “My fabric art is largely intuitive.  I build my designs quickly and freely.”

Jo Hathcock paints, dyes and uses photography on stitched fabric.

Sandra Poteet is “inspired and challenged by appreciation of the fine arts… and the natural environment.”

Ann Sanderson particularly likes “the process of collecting just the right fabrics. “I start with a rich pallet of my own hand-dyed fabrics, painted silks and other exotic fabrics from Africa and Asia.”

Lin Schiffner says “My heart melds the heartfelt with my love for color and a compulsion for meticulous detail.”

Come and enjoy the beautiful and varied works of these seven wonderful fabric artists at the October Cruise at Main Street Gallery.
